Biomedical Applications

Welcome to our laboratory, where cutting-edge research in engineering nanomaterials for biomedical applications takes center stage. Led by a team of dedicated scientists and engineers, our group is at the forefront of synthesizing and utilizing various nanomaterials to revolutionize healthcare. By meticulously controlling the physical and chemical properties of these nanomaterials, we unlock their full potential in the diagnosis, therapy, and drug delivery realms, offering novel solutions to critical medical challenges.

One of our flagship endeavors revolves around the exploration of magnetic nanoparticles, particularly in their role as MRI contrast agents. Through meticulous synthesis techniques, we've developed remarkably small iron oxide nanoparticles, known as ESIONs, and precisely crafted ferrimagnetic iron oxide nanocubes, or FIONs. These advancements have enabled us to tailor these nanoparticles for specific applications, such as serving as T1 contrast agents for enhanced imaging or as single-cell tracking T2 contrast agents, offering unprecedented insights into cellular dynamics.

In tandem with our exploration of magnetic nanoparticles, our laboratory is delving into the exciting realm of quantum dots, upconversion nanoparticles, and ceria nanoparticles. These versatile materials hold immense promise in revolutionizing disease diagnosis and treatment. From non-toxic quantum dots facilitating accurate disease detection to ceria nanoparticles boasting unique ROS-scavenging and anti-inflammatory properties, our research portfolio spans a wide array of applications. Moreover, our endeavors extend beyond mere synthesis, as we integrate these nanoparticles with functional polymers to create multifunctional platforms for precise drug delivery, offering controlled release mechanisms that can be triggered by internal or external stimuli. Currently, our focus lies on leveraging ceria nanoparticles for immune modulation and exploring metabolic modulators for innovative cancer therapy, underscoring our commitment to pushing the boundaries of biomedical research for the betterment of global health.
